In the heart, the left side is larger because it pumps to the entire body, while the right side only pumps to the lungs. The Ventricles are one of the two large chambers in the heart that collect and expel blood recieved from an atrium towards the peripheral beds within the body and lungs. The Atria are the other of the two blood collection chambers of the heart. Previously called the auricle, but that name is now used for the left or right atrial appendage. The definition of Septum is middle, therefore the septum of the heart is what separates the left side from the right side.
