Medicine of the Eyes

*Cataract surgery - The clouded natural lens is replaced with a new, clear lens (intraocular lens)

*YAG Laser Capsulotomy – The laser is used to create a central opening in the opacified capsule. Through that opening, light rays can pass freely to the back of the eye, resulting in restored or improved vision.

*LASIK - Anesthetic drops are laced in each eye to numb them. With the patient laying down on a table, the lasers are above them. An instrument holds one eye open to be worked on, while the other is covered. The doctor then creates a corneal flap and when this is exposed the laser beam is applied to the area. The laser is used to reshape the eye, which corrects the person’s vision. This process usually takes one minute.

*AST - Microscopically thin layers of tissue are gently removed by a laser, reshaping the cornea. This procedure is noninvasive and does not make an opening in the cornea. The healing process is longer than that of LASIK, but the retreatment rate is very low.

*CK - Using radiofrequency, how the eyes focus light can be changed by reshaping the cornea to make it steeper. A medical instrument hold the eye open while using special eye drops to make the corneal tissue shrink. After the surgery, an eye-patch is not required. Permanent solution is not guaranteed.

*Retina & Vitreous Surgery – Usually requires removing the vitreous humor and replacing it with medical grade saline liquid, gas, or silicone oil. Three microscopic openings are made for microsurgical instruments to be able to access the interior of the eyeball. This procedure improves the vision of someone who had decreased vision due to retinal disease.
